SOCKS is an Internet protocol that facilitates the routing of network packets between a client and server through a proxy server. SOCKS can handle packets from any kind of network protocol (FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, etc.).

When a client that’s using SOCKS wants to connect to a server, it actually sends the request to the SOCKS proxy server first. The proxy server then establishes the connection with the specific server and acts as an intermediary for any data exchange between the client and the server.
